The Mi Band 4 from Xiaomi was one of the company's most popular wearable products last year. The company solds lakhs of units of the band across the country and the reason for this was that it brought with it not just state of the art fitness tracking hardware, but also retained the aggressive pricing strategy of its predecessors.
And now, reports suggest that Xiaomi has already started work on the Mi Band 5 which is expected to arrive with a 1.2 inch display alongside NFC support for its global variant.
While the inclusion of the bigger display could be a popular move, Xiaomi's decision to add NFC to the mix could be more important as it would now enable to support more payment options including Google Pay support.
As of now, Xiaomi's Mi Pay is the only payment option supported on the Mi Band 4 but with the new technology on board, this will change when the Mi Band 5 is launched. To remind users, the Mi Band 4 and 3 also came with NFC. However, its features were only supported in China, and not available to users globally.
Further, in China too, only Mi Pay was officially supported by the Mi Band 4. Now, the company look to expand support globally by introducing support for more apps.
Apart from this, the report also reveals that the Mi Band 5 will cost 179 yuan in China and will launch in June later in 2020. This should set the Mi Band 5 for a similar pricing strategy such as the Mi Band 4 in India.
