“Walking 1-2 km everyday can not only burn upto 100 calories, but brisk walk can also help you live longer and healthy life. It maintains the proper blood flow throughout the body thereby keeping away from the risk of neurovascular problems like stroke and helps improve brain functions in people with dementia, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. Physical activity is linked to increased production of dopamine, whose deficiency is responsible for causing Parkinson’sDisease. Leg movements is critical for the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system as the signals sent through these muscles are vital for the production of healthy neural cells. Through this opportunity I would like to encourage everyone to make daily walk a part of their fitness regime.” Said Dr Sanjeev Dua, Principal Director, Neurosciences, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj.
Physical activity on regular basis is proven to sharpen the mind, lowers blood pressure, reduces anxiety & depression, triggers better sleep and keeps one away from chronic ailments like T2DM.
“There is high prevalence of smoking, systolic hypertension, high fasting blood glucose level, and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in our population at a younger age predisposing them to various neurological conditions at a younger age. Lack of awareness, lower rates of literacy and poor primary health care services are the key attributable factors. I recommend individuals to make sure they get some fresh air every day in form of 30-minute brisk walk. The younger generation needs to be more mindful of their daily habits and include some form of exercise in order to prevent lifestyle related ailments. It is therefore a must adapt activity for people of all ages to prevent future complications. Walking is the simplest and best form of physical activity to keep one’s weight and physical well-being under control. I would like to invoke all to stay active to stay fit.” said Dr Manish Vaish – Director, Neurosurgery Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali.
Pertaining to poor and sedentary lifestyle, there is a rising trend of various health ailments especially at a younger age. While most of the Indian population is still unaware about the initial symptoms, such public events are an opportunity to connect with the masses.
The main aim of this walkathon is to make people understand the ways to adapt to a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being. While diet is one of the main aspects in this, walking, exercising and regular physical activity boosts and keeps your overall well-being intact.
