Max Super Specialty Hospital Vaishali Raises Awareness on Colorectal Cancer

Haldwani, March 27, 2025: In an endeavour to highlight how, a well-planned treatment approach can help in improving the quality of life for those suffering from colorectal cancer, Max Super Specialty Hospital Vaishali conducted a patient centric awareness session. The session showcased the remarkable journey of 56-year-old patient, Haldwani, who got a new lease of life after successfully battling from Colorectal Cancer.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer globally and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. March is observed as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month & on the occasion an awareness session was conducted in the presence of Dr Vivek Mangla, Senior Director – Surgical Oncology (GI & HPB), Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali, along with Mr. Kundan Singh, who was successfully treated for stage 2 colorectal cancer at the hospital.

Speaking about the case, Dr Vivek Mangla said, “Mr. Kundan Singh initially presented with intermittent rectal bleeding. Upon evaluation, he was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer along with multiple polyps. We performed a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to remove the cancerous portion of his intestine. Since his biopsy reports indicated that the cancer had spread to some lymph nodes, he underwent adjuvant chemotherapy to eliminate any remaining cancer cells and prevent recurrence. Following chemotherapy, he underwent an ileostomy closure, allowing him to regain normal bowel function. His treatment was a success, and today, Mr. Singh continues to lead a healthy, cancer-free life.”

Dr Mangla further emphasized the importance of early detection, stating, “Colorectal cancer is highly treatable if diagnosed in its early stages. Regular screenings, even after successful treatment, are crucial for detecting potential recurrence or new polyps before they become serious. We urge individuals, especially those above 50, to prioritize routine colonoscopies and not ignore symptoms like rectal bleeding or persistent digestive issues. Early detection and timely intervention can significantly reduce the risk of colorectal cancer and save lives.”
